I've been thinking for the past few weeks about how the opposition to Proposition 8 seems to want to denigrate, belittle, and completely disregard any support for Prop 8 that is based on one's personal religious belief. There has been a concerted effort to put Prop 8 supporters on the defensive as though we have to apologize for what we know in our hearts to be true principles.
I have, however, noticed that many of the "No on 8" crowd appear to base their opinions on Prop 8 on their own personal beliefs. Perhaps they have a family member or friend who is homosexual and they do not want to have that individual's rights taken away.
The truth is that the personal beliefs of the "No on 8" crowd, however, which are based on secularist or atheist views are no more valid than my views which may be based on my own religious beliefs. In our nation, we all have the right to our beliefs and are able to express those through the democratic process.
What I think is great about this site is that it has given me arguments to use to support my beliefs and to help me to realize that I am not alone in supporting Proposition 8.
Thanks for all the great posts and comments. Let's go out and finish strong! :)
