I received this email from my cousin Khristine who lives in the Sacramento area -
I am back with a new request on this campaign. I have seen two things the past two days that have fired me up in the Prop 8 fight. The California Teacher's Association donated $1 million to No on Prop 8. California schools are struggling for every dollar. Our local schools have been forced to fire librarians and close school libraries. There is absolute outrage by parents and teachers that the CTA would take this step. Also, there is a big fundraiser in Hollywood to raise money for the No on 8 campaign, featuring big name singers and celebrities. {UPDATE - they raised 3.9 million}
I can't describe how strongly I feel about this. Our parental rights to control education are at risk. Our religious rights to believe what we want and then say it out loud are at risk. Our children are at risk. And this isn't just in our state. They say "As goes California, so goes the nation." If this passes, we would be the first state in the nation to actually support same-sex marriage by a vote of the people. We have to do everything we can to keep that from happening.
My sister and I have decided to begin a donation blitz to fight these fundraising efforts. We are asking people everywhere who believe in traditional marriage to donate $10 more. Look at the numbers. If we can get 300,000, half of the people that donated already, to give only $10 each, that will be $3 million! What if we could give $20 each? What if we could get 1,000,000? So here is our plan.
1) Go to http://protectmarriage.com/ and follow the link Donate Now and make a donation.
2) Forward this to at least 10 people who you think have a good chance of donating. Rich says if we each do at least 10 people and they each do 10 people, by the sixth forward, it will have reached 100,000 people! Be sure to ask them to forward it, too.
3) Go on at least one blog, website or newspaper editorial that you read and post a comment about this. I will include some text below that you can copy and paste. I have written it to focus on the CTA issue as I am commenting on every paper I can think of in California. Be sure to change it to fit your views or the topic addressed in the article you are viewing.
FYI, we are also doing a bulk text message to get the young people involved. Let's really make this a blitz. These are easy things to do. Let's make this a true grass roots effort!
Thanks for your support!
Khristine
The California Teacher's Association (CTA) donated $250,000 to the No on Prop 8 campaign in August. They recently donated an additional $1 million, making them the largest institutional donor. They did this even though our schools are struggling for every dollar to educate our children. Please join with Californians everywhere in protest by joining a donation blitz to the Yes on 8 campaign. If only half of the 600,000 people who already donated money gave an additional $10, we would raise $3 million and effectively negate the CTA's efforts. Imagine what would happen if they donated $20 each. Or $100? To donate, go to http://protectmarriage.com/ and follow the link Donate Now.
Please email friends and family! I am going to go right now and donate $10 more! Thanks Khristine!
